AVRO RJ85 Large Air Tanker
Recognising they needed to look forward to the future and beyond their existing fleet of large air tankers, Conair embarked on a mission to find a suitable platform on which to build their air tanker fleet.
After an exhaustive search, Conair elected to add the British Aerospace Avro RJ85 to this platform. Drawing on decades of experience, the Conair Team went about designing a large air tanker from the ground up that could serve in their fleet for the next twenty to twenty five years.
And so the Avro RJ85 air tanker came to fruition. There are currently nine RJ85’s built and these have been engaged in fire fighting with great success during the North American summers since 2014.
Field Air have been very proud to work with Conair to bring RJ85 Air Tanker’s into Australia each fire season since 2014. These aircraft have been based at Avalon Airport in Victoria and Dubbo Airport in New South Wales and have worked fires across the country including Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.
