The Company

Originally formed in 1958, the Aerial Application Association of Australia (AAAA) is a not-for-profit organisation with a membership primarily made up of operators of agricultural aircraft, as well as aerial firefighting operations, with the AAAA’s members controlling over 90% of application aircraft in use. Today’s application operators and pilots are totally professional, highly trained and committed to Australian agriculture and the communities they serve.

The industry utilizes over 300 special purpose aircraft, as well as a wide range of supporting vehicles and equipment, along with established maintenance, directly employing well in excess of 2000 people comprising pilots, field staff, maintenance staff and administrators.

The Position

With the impending retirement of the CEO, the AAAA are now looking to appoint a new leader to continue AAAA’s vision and mission of a sustainable industry built on professionalism of members and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Board, the CEO is responsible for the day-to-day management of the organisation and accountable for its effective operational and financial stability, working closely with the Board to execute the strategic plan.

The position plays a key role in bringing the industry together to speak with one voice, including representing the AAAA and its members in all public and political forums to achieve regulatory and political outcomes and to ensure the industry’s image and reputation is maintained to the highest possible level.

The Person

To be successful in this high profile, challenging but highly rewarding position, you will possess the following key skills, attributes and experience:

• Proven track record of success at CEO or Executive level with exposure to the aviation, agriculture or related sectors
• Demonstrated strong commitment to driving and instilling a safety culture including principles and systems
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management across government, media and other industry groups
• Highly developed business management skills across finance, governance and business planning, ideally having reported to a board (Company Secretary experience will also be highly regarded)
• High level negotiation skills with the ability to resolve complex issues and manage and influence a broad and diverse range of key stakeholder, including Government
• Well-developed presentation and communications skills, both written and verbal
• Proven team management in leading and motivating a small team to achieve strategic and program objectives
• Possess key values of integrity, honesty and a culture of going the extra mile for members
• Tertiary qualifications in a business, economics or communications related discipline will be well regarded but not considered essential
