Carrying a payload of up to 12,253 litres coupled with a dispatch speed of up to 425 knots, the Avro RJ85 represents the future generation in large air tankers.
Recognising they needed to look forward to the future and beyond their existing fleet of large air tankers, Conair embarked on a mission to find the best platform on which to build their next air tanker fleet.
After an exhaustive search, Conair elected to make the British Aerospace Avro RJ85 this platform. Drawing on decades of experience, the Conair Team went about designing a large air tanker from the ground up that could serve in their fleet for the next twenty to twenty five years.
And so the Avro RJ85 air tanker came to fruition. Currently five RJ's have been built, carrying the North American tail numbers 160, 161, 162, 163 and 164 - and each of these have been engaged fire fighting with great success during the North American summers of 2014 and 2015.
For the Australia Summer of 2014/2015, Field Air was very proud to work with Conair to bring RJ Tail Number 162 to Australia. For more information on the RJ, visit the Firebombing Downloads
